Can't login as user in KDM login manager
I can't get past the login screen as a non-root user. X server hangs and after a Ctl-Alt-Bksp, it goes back to login screen so I can't see the error. If I open a new console and login, I can get get into KDE using startx command. What gives?

Is thus Kbuntu? If your using Ubuntu with KDE it's probably best to change to the kDE version...

Actually, its yoper. Its trying to write to the home folder but it doesn't have permission. If I change it to 777, it works fine. Obviously not the long term answer.

Ok, going by what you have in the Distribution bit.
Agreed, can you confirm if KDM is running as root or as part of the init process, I have an incling that that could be the problem but not sure. |
