Can't load Konqueror on Mandrake 10.1

I just installed Mandrakelinux 10.1, and this is pretty much the first time I've really used linux. If I am on root, things work fine... I can run Konqueror, and I also have no problems running Kopete on KDE. However, if I'm on a different user, these things just won't load. I've searhed around and found a few different solutions, but have none of them have been much help to me yet.
I also tried to update KDE, but I can't get that to work either.

Hope someone can help me fix this, before I decide linux just isn't worth it :P

Thanks!

That was a known bug in mdk10.1 and you really need the updates to fix it properly. See this thread:

http://mandrivausers.org/index.php?s...2&hl=konqueror

Also, the workaround in pmpatrick's post works if you can't get the updates to work.

Thanks, I used the workaround and now I can open Konqueror. I can also now open Kopete. But now I'm stuck again -_-. To get Kopete to connect to MSN, I need to install the newer version. To install the newer version, i need KDE 3.4. The only way I can see to do that is to use Konstruct, and when I do that, I get this:

Code:
In file included from kernel/qtaddons_x11.cpp:25:
kernel/qt_x11_p.h:66:22: X11/Xlib.h: No such file or directory
kernel/qt_x11_p.h:71:23: X11/Xutil.h: No such file or directory
kernel/qt_x11_p.h:72:21: X11/Xos.h: No such file or directory
kernel/qt_x11_p.h:73:23: X11/Xatom.h: No such file or directory
make[6]: *** [.obj/release-shared-mt/qtaddons_x11.o] Error 1
I thought I might have to get the 'libxorg-x11-devel-6.8.2-7.2.102mdk.i586' which I see in rpmdrake, but when i try to install it, it says it can't be installed due to unsatisfied multiarch-utils.

More help would be very much appreciated, thanks!!

Mandrake backported the update to kopete into their version. Run MandrakeUpdate and you should see an update for kopete there, it wouldn't hurt to get all the other updates too. Trying to upgrade to KDE3.4 manually is not easy.

I ran MandrakeUpdate, and I updated everything that was on the list (though I didn't see one for kopete on there) All the installs were successful, but Kopete was not updated.

If I try to install the new version of it, it says it needs a working libXext to proceed.

Any ideas as to what i should do?

Thanks again!

See here for the details of the update for kopete: http://www.mandriva.com/security/adv...DKA-2005:028-1 make sure your packages are at least at the version mentioned there.

That libext error sounds like you're trying to compile something - make sure you've installed the libxorg-devel packages and the -devel packages for anything else you'll need. Also you might find it easier just to install GAIM (through the control centre) and use that
