Can't install kicker

Hi I'm brand new to Linux and am trying to install kicker and ksmserver to enable advanced desktop on my asus eeepc. I am getting this error: dpkg: parse error, in file '/var/lib/dpkg/available' near line 3013 package 'libqt3-mt':
'Replaces' field, missing package name, or garbage where package name expected
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)
I've looked at the sequence over and over again in sudo kate and cannot even guess at what might be wrong. I've tried reinstalling libqt3-mt but the message says I already have the latest version. Can anyone help? Should I run my recovery disk? Thankyou.

I can't help with the dpkg error.

However I am curious as to what your setup is. I've tried to run ksmserver outside kde and I've never managed to get it working correctly, it would silently ignore all the dcop calls no matter what I did. It didn't work unless you launched kdeinit, which in turn is almost the same than running the whole kde. Kicker works like a charm though, that is, if you truly like kicker (I don't).

To be honest I don't understand any of it...I'm just following blindly the instructions I find via places like this. I'm afraid I can't help you out. I did get it working somehow but only after visiting several forums and a lot of trial and error. Funny how one instruction failed over and over again but next day, after the pc had been turened off it worked. Go figure. Now I can get my desktop back into easy mode and cannot access my terminal. Was it really worth all this trouble?
