Can't install GCC

This is the stupidest thing I've found so far.

I downloaded GCC and tried to install, it wouldn't and gave an error, I looked it up and apparently you can't install GCC without GCC. So I went to add/remove programs and clicked on GCC, then it said it can't install GCC because: Missing Dependency: libgomp = 4.1.1-30 is needed by package gcc.

So I checked the dependancy and unchecked GCC, then it tells me they have to be installed together. So I checked both, and it must be trying to install GCC first, because its giving the error again, missing dependancy.

Grrrr... I found an up to date RPM for it, I tried to install it and it says:

Quote:
[root@localhost downloads]# rpm -ivh gcc-4.1.2-12.i386.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
cpp = 4.1.2-12 is needed by gcc-4.1.2-12.i386
glibc-devel >= 2.2.90-12 is needed by gcc-4.1.2-12.i386
libgcc >= 4.1.2-12 is needed by gcc-4.1.2-12.i386
libgomp = 4.1.2-12 is needed by gcc-4.1.2-12.i386
libgomp.so.1 is needed by gcc-4.1.2-12.i386
I can't find half the dependencies, let alone requires versions and install them all.

Can someone help me please? I can not ./configure ANYTHING because I don't have GCC - this is so stupid.

Can't do anything except sit here and stare at the screen until someone helps me, it's a brick wall. Why would someone make a damn program that can't install unless it's already installed -.-

You can use your distribution's package manager to install GCC. In Fedora, try:
Code:
yum install gcc cpp libgcc glibc-devel libgomp
I have't used yum for a while, so I don't remember do you have to give the right version numbers to it.

To install something from source (even a compiler like gcc), you need a compiler already installed, or you'll need to create the files for the compiler by hand. It's logical that you'd need gcc installed in order to install gcc.
