I'm using Midnight Commander and I know how to copy and paste a file in the regular home directory but when I go to do it in the file system, it won't let me. (screenshots) I figure I need to be root to do it but I couldn't figure out how. Thanks.

Midnight Commander is an ncurses program, so you can started from the command line with sudo or after su, depending on how your distro is configured. In that way, root will be running the program and it will have root privileges.

Indeed, depending on your desktop environment, you may be able to start GUI programs in the same way without difficulties.

gksudo and kdesudo come to mind.
Otherwise, write your own graphical sudo with yad or zenity. :)

Thanks Frank. The sudo mc in the terminal worked perfectly. :)
