I believe that the Grub installation on sdd was from my first futile attempts at installing linux a few months ago, something I should have cleaned up.
No there is no partition 8 on sdb, probably just the mess I left when I first started to install Linux.
I found a Fedora forum that has threads regarding this error. I will ask on that forum but I will leave the thread open for now incase anyone has any suggestions.
