Can't go beyond 800x600 resolution when running Fedora 10 on Virtual box.


the subject just about describes my problem.. i read around for a solution on some other fedora forums but i couldn't get head or tail of it coz i'm really new to linux..

hope you guys will help me out..
please try and be as descriptive as possible.. i'm REALLY new to this.. but VERY eager to learn fast.

Have you installed the Virtual Box tools in the guest partition? These tools include a video driver that Fedora can use to "see" a larger display. There's a menu item to install the Guest OS tools that will download them (if you don't already have them downloaded) then mount a virtual disk with the installation image on it.

oh ok i managed to get the additions installed.. i'm running Fedora 10 32 bit for i386.. but the only addon that was remotely suitable was for x86.. i DID install it anyway.. but it didn't make a difference.. any other suggestions?

Hi zeezulander

Did you get any joy with your small size display? I have the same issue on a 32 bit virtualised RedHat EL installation and can't get over it. I have tried installing the VMWare tools but to no avail. I notice that if I try to reconfigure the panel size to 1600x1200 through the System -> Display menu I can tell the OS taht I'm using a different sized panel. However even after it tells me that its written the new options to /etc/X11/xorg.conf It actually doesn't and the old values are still there. I have tried updating this file myself and added in the new size but to no avail.

Does any of this sound familiar or can anyone else help?
