Can't get resolution higher than 1920x1080

Running HDMI via display port on a brand new Acer G257HU. Graphics card is a GT 330. I'm running the most recent drivers from Nvidia, and I've tried manually editing xorg.conf to include higher resolutions than 1080p but can't get it to budge.

RHEL6.5 64 bit
Code:
 lspci | grep "VGA"
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GT215 [GeForce GT 330] (rev a2)
 egrep -i " connected|card detect|primary dev" /var/log/Xorg.0.log
[ 484.278] (--) NVIDIA(0): Acer G257HU (DFP-1) (boot, connected)

This is happening with two machines, the other is running an Nvidia NVS315 on RHEL6.5 as well.

What happens when you do:
Code:
xrandr --size 1680x1050
Note: should also be able to do CtrlAlt+ and CtrlAlt-

It changes the resolution. CtrlALt+/- does nothing though. I tried forcing it to a higher resolution but no dice.

Turns out it was the display port. I switched it to a dual-link DVI and the resolution bumped up. For some reason DP-->HDMI was only capable of 1080p.

Was it an active or passive DP -> HDMI adapter? The passive adapters are generally only rated up to 1920x1200.
