Exactly as ardvark71 said; that link is to the webpage that explains what to do and has a link to the download to be done (as he said) from the cmd line.

The instructions are nice and clear and I've used them several times on both Centos 5 & Centos 6.

Hello again,
I have tried over and over to load the driver foo2zjs.tar.gz for my HP Laserjet 1018 printer with no luck.

When I click on the printer link a window opens and say I am missing the driver and takes me to a window that asks to download the driver. I figured this is good it will download the driver and it will finally work.
It asks for the driver number to be downloaded 3.15.2-plugin.run file, it started to load but then I get this window"
/home/joeinslw/.hplip-3.15.2-plugin.run file does not match it's checksum. File may have been corrupted or altered.

When I click OK another screen opens, that says:
Failed to install plug-in. Either you have chosen to skip the plug-in installation, or entered the wrong password.

I didn't do either, and now I am totally lost with this problem, if you know why I am getting these messages, please let me know.

Forget the gui; just down load the file at the cli and follow the instructions.

I copied and pasted each command one at a time in the terminal, when it was finished it said it was saved, so I guess it should work.
I will let you know if that's it and it works.

Now unpack it:

Unpack:
$ tar zxf foo2zjs.tar.gz
$ cd foo2zjs
Good than the tar.gz should be in your Downloads directory (provided that's where you have all your Downloads going to)and if it is unpacked you should find a file that say's:
foo2zjs and it should look like a folder.
Once it is unpacked follow the rest of the instructions on that page.

Your next step is to cd into the directory where the file is and run: make
Code:
cd Downloads/foo2zjs/    Hit Enter
and than type make     Hit Enter
When make is done run: sudo make install

Sorry, no go......tried every step, and all I get is corrupted files for the result.
I feel that I have to reinstall the OS, that is the only thing I know that will clear the bug and eventually will work.

Unless you know of a better way,

At this point, I think reinstalling Ubuntu is overkill and may not resolve this issue.

Just as an idea, perhaps there is a local LUG (Linux Users Group) near where you live that could help you out with this or failing that, a computer repair shop that has experience (and is fluent) in Linux.

I have to agree with ardvark; reinstalling Ubuntu is indeed overkill.
I don't think reinstalling the os is going to fix a driver that has to be installed.

What kind of messages are you getting that indicate file corruption?
