Can't get Kubuntu v7.10 to connect to internet

I installed Kubuntu v7.10 without a hitch and notice it's faster than v7.04, but can't seem to get my dialup connection to work. I'm using a serial modem, and I get the following error:

"An error occurred while loading. Could not connect to host http://www.ebay.com." Used eBay as an example. Get the same message no matter what site I try.

I know the modem is connecting OK, just can't figure this part out. Thanks.

This may be a problem with /etc/resolv.conf not being set up properly. You can test whether resolv.conf is the problem by entering the two following addresses into your web browser:

http://164.214.2.59
http://www.nima.mil

If you get through on the number address but not on the name address then you do not have /etc/resolve.conf set up properly.

Thanks, it did say it couldn't find /etc/resolve.conf so I did a mkdir for it and that message went away. How would I configure it correctly? Kubuntu is a debian based OS.

I tried your numbered address JailBait and it still wouldn't connect. I checked the /etc/resolv.conf file and everything looked OK. Anyone have any ideas? The weird thing is I'm also trying out Puppy Linux and I have no problem connecting with it's GKDial program.
