Angry Can't get DigiChat Server to start as a daemon

Having trouble Getting DigiChat's server to run as a Daemon. It will start from the command line with no issues however but as this defeats thepurpose of putting a symlink in runlevel 3, it is no good.

OS: Redhat 9
DigiChat Version: 4.0

Symlink "/etc/rc3.d/DigiChat_Server" points to "/etc/rc.d/init.d/DigiChat_Server" which inturn points to the main server "/root/DigiChat_4.0/DigiChat_Server".

The server will start from the command line using "/etc/rc3.d/DigiChat_Server &"

Any ideas?

Looks like you may have a problem with your init script.

The syntax that should work is:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/DigiChat_Server start
/etc/rc.d/init.d/DigiChat_Server status
... etc.

Starting "/etc/rc3.d/DigiChat_Server &" almost sounds like you are calling the application directly rather than using an init script.

Have a look at the DigiChat script and compare it with another init script - something that you know works!

Generally, the init script should have a case statement to handle all the different start|stop|reset|status arguments that you might throw at it. The 'normal' way that the script starts the daemon running is to use startproc /path/to/my_application

Hope this helps.
