Cool Can't get anything downloaded from Gentoo Repo

When I first got Gentoo, everything worked OK. then I suddenly couldn't dl any apps then IRC wouldn't start.Had net access the whole time.
I keep getting messages saying that I'm trying to connect to the repos site but the connection times out.

I'm using a D-Link modem and a friend thinks that the first step is to ditch that. I did and got a thomson speedtouch 530 but can't get that setup. Does anyone out there think that it is the modem; should I try another mirror?(have to find out how to do that) Gentoo is great but can't get the apps I need at the moment. Bye

I assume that your Gentoo host has internet access ?

Check your /etc/make.conf for your GENTOO_MIRRORS ...
you may need to change them.

Thanks dxqcanada, yes, I've got internet access OK and did dl apps for a while, then everything regarding apps dl stopped. Mystery! Internet access has always been good.

The mirror listed in /etc/make.conf is The comments warn me not to edit this file unless I'm sure what I am doing.
Also, how do I find out what the device name of my thumb drive is so that I can mount that? I've tried sda, sda1, sda2, sda3, and sda4 .Bye
