there should be a button to remove threads created by the same person.

you shouldn't need an ntldr because your file system is reportedly fat32 - change fat32 to vfat it works better-
my understanding is of windows xp such that I don't think that I should need that file on a fat32(vfat) and so I would presume that it is actually a ntfs and has been corrupted by incorrect file system access.although I have not used windows for 6 years now

well it seems u have disturbed ur MBR portion ...

1)reinstall just the NTLDR
i m not sure .. confirm it first.... boot frm xp cd, go to debug mode n type a command something like fix-mbr ... serach for it..

2) reinstall ur grub
with the linux cd reinstall the grub ..

i didn't have done it but know the major point .. ask some one to tell u how to install ntldr and then grub ... it's a 15 minute work ..

I can't do anything with the Windows XP CD cause I don't know the Admin password, except reinstall Windows XP, and I can't do that because I would lose the information I have there.

I've tried, however, to move NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM from the Windows XP CD to the NTFS partition, but I still get the same error message.

I don't know how to reinstall grub.

Restoring XP MBR ----> Task B1 & B2 of the last link in my signature refer. By the way you can just press return as the admin password. Alternatively download FreeDos CD iso and burn it into a CD. It has fdsik.exe inside.

Restoring Grub can be done by Task B4 or B5.

Regardess how you mess (or being messed by) the boot loaders you XP partition is safe as long as you don't destroy it yourself, formatting. All boot loader can be regenerated.
