Can't activate Wifi on HP Pavillon laptop afer Zorin 9 installation
Hi there,
I just installed Zorin 9 on an old HP Pavillon Entertainement. I just can't get the Wifi icon to turn from orange (not activated) to blue (activated) even after hitting it several times.
I don't know well enough how to move around Zorin to understand if it's a proble of driver or else
I can connect through a wire to internet without problems.
When I go to "Network", I can't activate the sliding botton from OFF to ON
Have you tried going to the Z menu button and clicking it, then going up to system tools and system settings and clicking on Network and then Wireless. You have the ON/OFF option there too. Does that work or not? You could post some info on your network by running this command and posting the output:
Code:
inxi -n
If that doesn't get any output, run it prefixed with sudo.
I tried "going to the Z menu button and clicking it, then going up to system tools and system settings and clicking on Network and then Wireless" but the ON/OFF button would still not stay ON.
I ran the Inxi command and got
Card-1: Realtek RTL8111/8168 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller Driver: r8169IF: eth0 state: up speed: 100 Mbps duplex: full mac: 00:1e:68:c7:0c:eb
cart-2: intel PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN (Shiloh) Network Connection driver: iwlwifi
IF: wlan0 state: down mac: 00:16:ea:bc:73:ea
This may sound like a stupid obvious suggestion, but make sure the laptop's WiFi switch is set to "On". Most laptops have a physical switch to disable WiFi, and it's often not obvious where it is or which way to push it to unlock it. Even worse, they are often easy to accidentally switch.
I have several laptops which use the iwlwifi driver for their wireless, and it seems to work pretty well for them. That said, it's always possible for the hardware itself to have an issue.
The problem is I can't get the physical switch to be turned ON. The way it's done on an HP Pavillon is that it's a like a contact switch (like a touch pad). Right now it's orange and even if I keep hitting it it doesn't turn white (ON).
It used to work perfectly before with Windows (???)
