Can' edit fstab in rescue mode


I made a wrong entries in my fedora 8 fstab and it wont boot anymore, i tried to edit fstab in rescue mode usig vim but it won't work. please need your expertise... tnx in advance

I never needed rescue mode, but I messed up my system a number of times and I usually just boot from a Knoppix Live CD.

Are you managing to launch vim?: #vim /etc/fstab
Are you sure you logged in as root? #whoami
How is your root partition mounted? #mount

Perhaps you can give some more details, as your problem should be easy to solve.

Did you chroot the filesystem first?
If not then give the command chroot /mnt/sysimage
