Which version did you install, and what kind of network card are you using?

Rnastyracer 12-21-2002 06:06 PM

I installed version 7.1. I am not shure on what network card is, I have Dial-up Adapter, Dial-up Adapter #2 (vpn support), Microsoft Virtual Private Networking Adapter, Toshiba PCX2200 ISB Cable Modem (NDIS 5).

You need to know the model of you network card. For example I'm using a Netgear FA311 ethernet card. When I used 7.1 I had to download the drivers. You need to figure out which is your network card. It's definitely not any of the dial up adapters. Was this computer hooked up to the internet through the cable modem before? IF it was your card is the one that the modem was connected to on your computer. Later versions of Redhat support more cards. I didn't need to configure anything, when I installed 7.3 and 8.0. It detected the card automatically.

Well, I guess I will upgrade to 8.0. :study:

check to see how you have that cable modem hooked up to your PC if it is hooked up using USB instead of using the Ethernet port, change it ! ( make sure you have an Ethernet card first ) You might need to restart the modem after changing it.

from the sounds of it though you don't have an Ethernet card installed. I got that from your post describing you network options in windows ( third post ). You could just go out and buy one at you local bestbuy or radio shack they cost around 20 bucks. good luck I hope this helps.

Who is handling your cable modem. I have a cable modem through concast and they have different programs for the two connection types, usb and ether net. I went with the ether net option because I have it hooked to a small network that my kids share. Made internet sharing a breeze. I use Mandrake 9.0.Just put it on last week and it configured everything for me and it runs like a dream.
