C compiler install
I need to install a c compiler on a Linux box. I downloaded gcc-2.96-85.i386.rpm from Radhat and did the rpm-i thing. It seemed to work fine, but I cannot find the executables to compile. The RPM said there were no dependancies, so I think my prob was in my install. Any help?
ps
If you know another compiler that will work easier pls LMK. I need a compiler for C, C++ is just an extra.

the package should install /usr/bin/gcc, if that's not there, then i'd guess you're installation didn't work. use
rpm -qa | grep gcc
to see if the rpm db thinks it's installed.
also if you want to do C++ then you'll need to install gcc-c++ too

Tks for the info,, I will check the machine tonight to see if it is in /usr/bin/gcc The package from Redhat said that it had both a c and c++ compiler.
