What kind of sensor is it? Through what connector to does it work? Does it have a driver software which you can manipulate? Or maybe the driver gives you output?

Also, look for existing software, e.g. on GitHub, that might do all-or-part of what you want.

These days, "your first presumption" should not be that, whatever it is you're trying to do, that you must be the one to do it. No, no matter what it is, somebody out there has probably already done it, and has shared what they did. Not only "how to read the sensors," I'd wager, but "the whole darned thermal-management algorithm."
