Buying new sound card

Greetings... I come in peace...

OK, the soundcard of my computer was detected by Fedora 1 and when I tried to test the sound nothing happened. Since my box is rather old [Compaq Presario] I am not interested in a top of the notch soundcard but something that will be cheap and easy to put in service. I already purchased a external modem that made me very, very happy [That one was busted too...] and I am OK with it...

I know for sure that the soundcard is not working b/c I couldn't make it work with Winblows 2000 Pro. Can somebody recommend me something dirt cheap that would work on my box?

actully dirt cheap sound cards are usually the most compatable. low end creative sb's or soundblaster compatables all seem to work well.

Thank you!

I will try the CMedia CMI8738 5.1 6-Channel PCI Sound Card and see how it goes...

At the link you gave me this one didn't appear RED, Green or GRAY so it should be OK

The whole deal is just $12

OK! I guess I chose a good sound card :D

Fantastic!

Now, I need group encouragement to be able to turn off my computer, open the case, remove the damaged soundcard, install the new soundcard, turn on the computer and test sound...

Somebody tell me that everything is going to be alright
