Burning the .iso and making it bootable
OK, apparantly I am stupid! I have been trying for 6 months to get a distro of linux that will run on this underpowered piece of crap Everex machine. I think I have finally found one in gOS. My problem is when I try to burn the .iso to the CD I have no luck getting it to extraxt properly (I get missing kernel and other sundry errors) and I have no luck getting it to be bootable. I have tried so many burner software packages that I can recite all of the free ones by name and feature sets. I am tying to burn the pre gadgets release to CD on my Dell XP desktop machine so I can test/install it on my Everex Vista laptop.
If Everex is this much of a pain to get going then I think I will just stick with Vista or install 98 and give up all together. I have tried the instructions on gOS website and that even failed. I am holding the universal L for loser up to my forehead until I hear a reply. Thanks guys. |
Where are you getting these errors? Is it when the burned CD/DVD is booting/installing? You are burning it as an image, right?

I use deepburner to burn ISOs and never had a problem. When you open up deepburner you choose to burn an ISO and select your ISO.

I have had great luck burning images using PowerIso, you can download it for free and are supposed to pay for it to be regestered, but just look up on yourube or something for a free Key and use it. It will probably fix whatever problem your having with burning an ISO. If the info you have is an ISO then it will show the link as a gold CD then all you have to do it open it and click burn. All hassle is over with!

I can't tell from the original post if the issue is successfully burning from .iso---or mabye something else.

Please describe precisely the sets that you go thru to burn your ISO. You need a special program such as those described above (DeepBurner, PowerISO, etc.) to burn the ISO file.
You cannot just drag the ISO file to the CD or DVD. This uses a totally incompatible writing technique. You need to explain what you are doing in detail before anyone can tell you what you are doing wrong, if anything. |
Got it fixed
Thanks guys I finally got the darn thing booting from the CD and it looks like it's running OK.

Not fewer than 5 forum member took time to try to address your problem. It would be nice if you would post what you did to resolve the problem. That way everyone learns. It is considered very rude to take and not give back to the community.
