Burning Knoppix as bootable CD from DVD

Hi folks,

I would like to try knoppix on my computer first before installing debian just to check the hardware etc. But I only have it here on a DVD as a magazine supplement/insert. Now I don't know how to burn a bootable CD-Rom (don't have a DVD at home) of this distro (with nero under win2k at the moment) because I have no image file of it: there's only a folder "knoppix" on the DVD with referring files, but I need to create an image first, right? Does anybody know what I should do?

Does the little birthday cake under your name mean its your birthday? If so, happy birthday! :)

I think you SHOULD be able to copy all files from the dvd to a cd, but I am not sure. Maybe turn off hidden files so you can see them, there may be something else. An ISO, I think, is only a vessel for allowing you to have many files represented as one file for downloading purposes. If you have the filez then you should be good to go.

Hi Pauli,
thanks a lot for yor best wishes and your answer: I have all files now I need to burn but nero asks for a boot-image location (on floppy or hd), which file should i choose for that?

The Knoppix DVD is a larger-than-CD-size distro, and is intended for those with bootable DVD drives. It will not fit on CD.
Unless the DVD also contains the .iso image file of the Knoppix live CD (I haven't got one to check since I'm in the US) you will not be able to directly burn a Knoppix CD from it. The .iso has vital information such as the boot sector for the CD.
The alternative is to download the Knoppix .iso file from one of the many mirrors and burn that instead.
