Burning a live-cd from a live-cd...
 

Ok, for the most part the title speaks for itself. I have a live CD iso stored on an ext2 formated drive on my laptop. There is no OS installed. I want to burn that iso to CD but I am having a few problems.

The first problem would be using the built in CD-RW that the Live CD is running off of (either Knoppix or Ubuntu at the moment). Both recognize the CD-RW drive but of course they freeze the system shortly after being ejected.

Next problem is trying to do it with my SCSI burner through an Adaptec Slim SCSI 1460D PC card. Knoppix seems to refuse to recognize it. Ubuntu does recognize it and show there is a CD-RW drive attached at /dev/scd0 but it refuses to mount a blank disk or let the burning software access it. I tested it with an already burnt cd and it opens up fine (with some manual mounting of course), so I know it works, but it is still being a major pain when I try to burn my ISO, it just wants to use the laptop's drive.

BTW, the burner connected via SCSI would be one of those NEC all-in-one CD/DVD RW drives (forget the exact specs) housed in a Logitec (not to be confused with Logitech). The Laptop is a NEC LaVie LL800R/7 with built in CD-RW. The machine and all afformentioned hardware were perchaced in Japan. From what I understand, none of this should make any difference.

So, a few questions.

1. Anyone have this problem before?

2. Is there a way to select the burner in Ubuntu Live?

3. Is there a way to use the same drive a live CD is running on to burn a cd?

Nope.
But there is a better solution. If you have a Gig of memory, load the LiveCD into memory, then the CD is free to use. Works with Knoppix, don't know about Ubuntu.

If you don't have that much memory, do likewise with a DSL liveCD.

Tell you what, try slax for this kind of work. (slax.linux-live.org).
If you have 256 mb of RAM, you can load this one into it and bust out the cd. Another alternative is Puppy linux. Try distrowatch in order to find it.

Thanks to both of you. I completly forgot about DSL and I have heard good things about slax as well. I'll give both a shot just for fun. ;)
