Burned Linux 17.1 disc is not bootable

I downloaded Linux Mint "Rebecca". When I open the ISO it gave me a window to burn the ISO to disc. After I burned to disc the disc is not bootable.

Did you burn the contents of the image or the image file itself?

Have checked the boot order in your BIOS?

When I opened the downloaded "linuxmint-17.1-cinnamon-64bit" and "imde-17.1-cinnamon-64bit.iso" I kept getting a window to burn the ISO and that was all I get. No winzip or other type of program, just windows disc image burner. After I burned the discs I tried to use them as an installer but there was no setup files or exe files to be found. So I tried to use it as a boot disc and nothing happened.

Yes, that was the first thing I did, was to change my BIOS boot sequence.

Thanx for your help. I printed out the user manual, but it doesn't solve my problem. It just tells me to do what I did that didn't work.

You have to burn it as an image. You cannot just burn the file to a disc like a data file, it must be burned as an image. I always had good luck with imgburn whenever creating images. If you use imgburn you can follow along with the rules. You could also try right clicking the iso file in windows and see if burn as image comes up.

Here are instructions for burning an image in windows

I cannot speak to the Windows burning utilities, so unless you are sure that you are burning it as an image this is the first thing to check as others pointed out. I would assume however that if you double-click an iso image that Windows should be smart enough to do the right thing.

Otherwise you might also want to try and put the iso on a usb stick, there are plenty of howtos out there.

Ok, are you confident with this? I mean, is this something we have to make sure that it was done right? Like, have you done this with other bootable discs before? (Hope this question does not come across wrong, I can't guess your level of expertise).

Could you describe what happens exactly when you try to boot from CD? Does it just boot to Windows?
What Windows are you using? Does your machine maybe have SecureBoot enabled, thus preventing it to boot anything else than Windows?

In windows 7 file explorer right click on the file and select burn image. Windows XP can't burn images without installing a program. But it sounds like you are burning an image however, if you examine the disk and only is the iso file then you did not burn it correctly.

Hi CrazyLee,

I want to recommend to you the PowerISO for CD/DVD Burning of ISO File.
I am using this software and it never fails me.
Having another Tool for Burning will help you to isolate the problem.

Procedure:
http://www.poweriso.com/tutorials/iso-burner.htm

If you still encountered the same issue, please try to download again the Linux Mint ISO and try to burn it again.

Hi CrazyLee...

If you need to burn another .iso, you can also use InfraRecorder, which is free of charge and is released under the GPL. :)

I've not used it yet, so I'm not sure how well it works.

Regards...
