Sorry but I'm not altogether clear on what you want to do. "Tried to use basero (you mean brasero?) but nope! Tried unebootin (you mean unetbootin?), nope." Are not very useful comments. Maybe if you explained what exactly your problems were in burning an image of the iso file or setting up the usb stick for booting you might get some helpful suggestions. What did you do and what errors did you encounter?

I get the feeling he has some iso image of xp and he wants to burn a disk. (in order to fix xp)
If so then I'd use a usb booted linux that has common tools for burning. If not most live boots can add in software but a burner ought to be in it. Normally boot to linux, double (or single) click on the iso file and make a disc.

Not sure about the usb part, maybe he wants a bootable xp usb. I'd use BartsPE for that or UBCD4win.

The problems with trying to use unetbootin to create a bootable xp is explained on the unetbootin home page:

Quote:
UNetbootin allows you to create bootable Live USB drives for Ubuntu, Fedora, and other Linux distributions without burning a CD.
The important part "Linux distributions". Further down on the page you will find:

Quote:
Also, ISO files for non-Linux operating systems have a different boot mechanism, so don't expect them to work either.
Not enough info to really be much help although using windows software suggested would probably be a better idea.

Windows cannot be booted from a read-only media, it goes also for an ISO on USB stick, because it wants to write to the media it is booted from. However, I hear there is Hiren or Hires or whatnot which is a Windows live CD, have no clue how they did it.
This whole thread has probably nothing to do with Linux and should not be on Linux forums.

The blue screen has an error code get the code & you can download & burn Rescue Console or use mini xp on the hirens bootcd.
Also most old winsxp machines had a recovery partition to return to factory condition.
