Browsers, both Firefox and Konqueror backs up one or more pages
 

I am a complete Newbie when it comes to Linux, and was very satisfied when I resolved the first problem with my brand new Kubuntu distro on my own, through tips on various websites.

Now, however, after having it installed for over seven hours, I need help :)

My problem is this: Whenever I browse the internet, OR folders on my computer, after some time, the browser backs up to the previous page, as if I had pressed the 'back'-button. The time it takes for the browser to do so varies from less than a second to more than a minute. I have tried both Konqueror (that came with the Kubuntu distro) and Firefox 3, and both have the same symptoms.

A way to circumvent the problem is to always open a link in a new tab, which is how I managed to log in here and type up this post in the first place. I suspected my mouse to have something to do with the issue at first, since the problem seemed worse when I used the scroll wheel, but I've ignored the wheel for an hour now, and the problem persists.

If anyone can offer any help, it would be greatly appreciated. I have a Kubuntu 8.04 (hardy) distro.

Are you able to swap the keyboard and mouse with known-good ones to check whether it is a hardware-related issue? BTW, is it a 5-button mouse?

Don't have answer, but Firefox is doing the same thing for me. Sometime it even just exits while i'm right in the middle of something. I'm looking for the answer now so if I figure it out i will let you know. I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron.

Maybe both of you could post some hardware specs to see what you have in common. It does sound like some sort of keyboard/mouse-related driver issue.

Well my keyboard came with my HP Compaq computer. Try to find it on google with no result its just a plain on keyboard with Compaq written on it. As far as the mouse goes, its made by Micro Innovations here is a link to the product info. http://www.microinv.com/product_cent...parent_id=1036

That is pretty weird. I have to say that I am hard put to come up with a software reason for it, but at the same time it would seem an odd coincidence for two people to be reporting the same problem with the same distro UNLESS it was software.

OriginalOG has given some hardware info; let us see what OP has to say.

I am currently using a mitsumi keyboard that came with one of my desktop computers a long time ago (though not so long that it doesn't have that windows key). The mouse is a four-button logitech cordless optical. I'm off to work now, but I'll try with another mouse later today to see if the problem still is there. Haven't had firefox completely shut down on me, hope that doesn't happen.

I have now used a wired logitech USB optical mouse for the past three hours or so, and the problem hasn't occured once since I switched mouse. I still don't know how I'll be able to use the other mouse, but at least now I'm able to browse without problem.

I am going to infer from this that OP was originally using a wireless mouse, since he specified the replacement mouse was wired.

In this case, I am going to guess that there might be some interference from some source (the computer next door, perhaps?) that results in his problem. Possibly the battery in the mouse is low, leading to data corruption/noise.

Alternatively, there IS a problem with the specific driver needed to operate the specific mouse, and the problem vanishes when a different driver for a different mouse is used.
