browser scrollbars problem

Hello guys, I came across something really weird. I have a dell xps 17 loaded with ubuntu 12.04 (I have actually reinstalled a brand new copy a few months ago) and all of a sudden - it's been a couple of days now - I have noticed that the browser vertical scrollbars (it doesn't matter which browser) are playing up quite a bit. So say I have a long page with vertical scrollbar: if I click on the bar and drag it down/up just a little bit, the bar reacts in a very unusual way, it snaps to the very bottom/top depending where I was trying to drag it to or, in the best case scenario, the movement is not at all fluid as it should be and as it had always been. If I instead use one of the two arrows at the top of the bottom it works OK. To add to it, this issue happens very frequently but not all the time.
Does anybody have any idea what the heck is going on?!
thanks

I have seen something like that. Occasionally, when I start dragging a scrollbar up or down in my browser and let go, it keeps going.

Unfortunately, it doesn't happen often enough (less than once a month, if that) and doesn't seem to be related to a particular site, so I haven't gotten any kind of a handle on it.

Since you say the problem occurs frequently, you might try starting a browser from the command line. If the problem happens, it might throw an message to the terminal that sheds a light on it. It's a long shot, I know, but it's the only idea I have right now.

Random, intermittent trouble is the worst kind to shoot.
