If you installed Ubuntu on a laptop, then whatever function keys on the keyboard are used to control brightness should (hopefully!!) work.
Have you tried using the keyboard to control brightness on your laptop?
If it is a desktop then the monitor should have controls for setting the brightness.
Have you tried using the monitor's controls to set the brightness?
