brightness fluctuates 910
the brightness control has no effect. sometimes i have a beautiful bright pix now i can just read it. this never occured on windows. this asus laptop m51v normally uses fn f5 and 6 to control brite. no effect

In my system, i have another way to change brightness, i.e. just scroll up & scroll down at battery/ plug icon. brightness can be handeled using powerapplet.

Have you looked at the "power management" in control center, there is "Dim display when idle" option, maybe it is active?

brightness problems
I just posted a problem with lack of control of brightness on an asus m51v laptop. From another post, it was mentioned to swich off the light sensor. I put tape over it. Now great brightness but no adjustment. I would like a fix.running ubuntu 9.10. thanks everybody

Brightness can be controlled using mouse scroll up and down at "power/batter applet". Checkout whether it is working or not !

sorry did`nt work for me. the picture is good with tape over the light sensor, obviously I will have to find a fix.

That laptop is pretty new. Linux might not know how to control the brightness, since it supposed to be automatic using the sensor.

Thanks the laptop is running well with the light sensor covered. No fixes for lack of adjustment though.

Thanks again everybody. I`m leaving it for the moment and hope a fix is coming.With a tape over the light sensor, it is bright.I have a few other issues to try and fix first.

To everybody.
My brightness problem, lack of adjustment has been solved. I downloaded the ati catalyst control centre. Now i can adjust everything I need to. thanks again to everyone for their help on this.
