Bricked my Ubuntu, need help!

Hello!
I know this sounds silly and stupid, but this morning my Ubuntu 10.10 wouln't boot. Instead of that it goes in initramfs mode, asking for input. OK, I decided to reinstall. Unfortunately, the USB stick I have probably have problems with parted and makes all distros to crash when trying to install. Is there a way to restore my previous install from livecd (it boots fine, but can't install). I tried to install both Ubuntu and Fedora, they all crashed at parted step. Please, help!

When you boot from the live CD can you see your original partion?
I had this happen once. The partition table was wrecked. I had to backup the data to another drive and wipe the partition table before gparted would work with the drive.

There may be other options so if you can wait see if anybody comes up with a better solution.

Regards

You're right! There was some problem with one of the partitions and I had to manually check it for errors. Funny why the installer didn't offered to do this for me automatically...

Well this is usual caused by fdisk (Linux or other wise) however Windows XP can cause similar issues on installation.
There isn't a huge amount of checking done on the partition table at least not like file systems.

Thanks for marking as solved.

Regards.
