I bought a linux mint disc from someone online for an old laptop. I can't log on to the laptop because I don't know the password. I don't have another computer to make a disk/usb. How do I install linux with the disc I bought if I can't get into the computer? Any options before the computer starts up? Haaaaaaaalp thanks

you need to boot from CD, you do not need to log in at all (if I understood it well)

Hi Squish420 and Welcome to LQ,
Unless you're talking about a BIOS password (I sure hope not), then pan64's advice is spot on. Just boot from the CD. You may have to modify BIOS to permit this, or sometimes hit a key sequence at startup (look at the screen - it usually tells you, albeit very briefly, what key to press). Once you're booted from the CD, you'll be able to run the "live" version of Mint and/or install it to your hard drive.
If you ARE talking about a BIOS password, you may be out of luck. These prevent you from doing ANYTHING with the computer. Your best bet would be by trying to talk to the manufacturer to see if there is a way out. I'll warn you, however, on certain makes/models there is no way out and you would need to replace the system board.
Anyway - let's not get ahead of ourselves - it's unlikely that you're stuck with a BIOS password situation. Hardly anyone used that feature when it was available because of the above caveats should the password be forgotten. You probably mean that you don't have the password for the computer's current operating system, which is not a problem (see above as well as pan64's post).
Let us know how it goes and Cheers !
