Question bootloader problem

i installed mandrake 10.0. The bootloader is giving problems. GRUB displays the message "GRUB hard disk error" and doesnt boot up. If I use LILO is displays "L 01 01 01 ......." and doesnt boot up. I have an ASUS A7N266 motherboard, amd athlon 2000xp processor and samsung 120gb hdd. What should i do to install bootloader properly?

When installing linux, did you create a /boot partition, I had the same problem a while ago , so I created a /boot partition and that's where I installed grub and everything workrd fine
