Bootloader - lilo

Ok...Obviously I am still new at this. I got Red Hat 9 to install, however GRUB wont load and returns an error. Since it shares with Win98, I used the fdisk /mbr to wipe it an allow Windows to load normally. However I need to install Lilo to get Linux to boot. How do I do that? I have a rescue floppy, I am just not sure of the command.

Yoyr rescue floppy will probably allow you to boot into Linux. Once you're in, many distros have a "control centre" or something similar from which you can reinstall your preferred bootloader.

Maybe there's a shorter way, but this worked for me.

I know, however i cant boot directly into it, so i was wondering if there was another way...

So is lilo installed then? If so, then you just need to run it. This is what I'd suggest:

1. Boot into Linux using the floppy
2. Open a terminal session as root, then: cd /etc
3. View the lilo.conf file and verify it contains both an entry for Redhat and Windows. If not, post the contents of lilo.conf here so that we can try to assist.
4. Rerun the lilo program. As root: /sbin/lilo
5. Assuming everything works, the output of the above will be one line per booting option, and if that's what you see you're in good shape.
6. Reboot, and you should get the lilo menu. Pick the OS you want and away you go. -- J.W.

I tried with an 'independent' bootloader called GAG (it's at sourceforge). You can run it from a diskette or from your harddisk (try diskette first!!) and it automatically recognises any SO you have installed (up to 9 different ones)
