Hi,

First I would format the MBR.

Boot from windows98CD/floppy and type the following:

Code:
fdisk /mbr
Now reboot and use your mandriva rescue cd again.

The Mandriva installer should do all the partitioning, and should also let your chose a bootloader setup. There are three basic options:

Grub on mbr of 1st drive
Grub on floppy
grub on **2nd** drive and use the BIOS config to switch the boot order (If your BIOS supports this.

If you can get into the Linux install, you can also use the grub command line to install grub somewhere.
