bootloader

i'm really really sorry to be asking so many questions just while i'm installing, but nobody around me has ever used linux,

i have chosen the install that wipes ur hard drive, now i think i'm near the end and it's asking me where to install the bootloader, I don't know!?

edit: oh yeh, options are
first sector of drive (MBR)
first sector of the root partitioin
on floppy
skip

Assuming you have a common setup, you want to install it on /dev/hda. This is the MBR for your first drive.

If you install it to your MBR, the computer will boot right up with no interaction from you. (The easiest way) (if you have older hardware, it might be best to create a boot floppy also)
Or you can create a floppy boot disk and wait min. every time u start your computer.

ok thanks :)

next thing is, all the things are in a list and it says sound and graphics aren't configured, i figured I could probably do that later, but when i click next it says
'x is not configured, do you really want this?'

is it referring to the 2 things on the list not configured, or is 'x' something else? because there is no mention of it on the screen

Thrasher 08-16-2004 05:21 PM

if you want to use a gui or desktop, you need to configure x.

jazzben 08-16-2004 05:23 PM

how do i configure x?

jazzben 08-16-2004 05:29 PM

Thrasher 08-16-2004 05:40 PM
