Booting to KDE

Iv never used any linux before accept i booted knoppix once and screwed aorund on it but i never got farmiliar with Linux. A friend of mine wanted me to try Suse and gave me the 8 disks and 2 manuals. I made the partiton for ti with partiton magic and instaled linux fine. when i first booted it it worked out perfectly but i couldnt stand the low resolution the videocard was on. i opened the consel with ctrl alt F1 and got into the SaX2 config to change the resolution. When that was done i rebooted form the consul, and when it rebooted it loaded strait to the conul and i cant get out of it. from looking through the manual for hours wihtout much sucess i tryed the comand KDMdesktop and it told me cannot conect to X-server. wthen i tryied startx and it told me I/O error cannot start X server. I donno what to do formhere maybe im missing something basic. I already tryied reinstaling linux and it did the same thing even when i didnt mess wiht the SaX2 jsut when i rebooted it the first time.

bring the resolution back to 640x480 and verify your video card and monitor are correct. If it's an older monitor or video card it may not support what you are trying to do.

the resolution goes back to default automaticly anyway plut the videocard supports 1024 x 1280 on windows. This problem happened even when i did nothing to the videocard also so it obviosuly has nothing to do witht he videocard. But thanks for your sugestion anyway.
