booting times?

How long does it usually take from pressing the power to the login? It takes 2 minutes for me which IMO is a bit too long. Is there anyway to speed it up (to <30 secs like windows)?

thanks in advance :)

On my PIV 1.8GHz notebook slack boots in around 35 seconds
until I can actually use it, the originally installed XP took ~1m40
to achive that.

So how do you guys do it?

Tinkster 10-30-2005 03:27 PM

Stripping out/not using stuff that's unnecessary, for example daemons
that some distros have running by default (fam, audit, ...), ldconfig (only
needs to be run when one installs new libraries on the system),
hotplug (e.g. if I know my hardware doesn't change all the time I
don't need hotplug but am faster by slapping my stuff into
modules.conf), ...

If you want to know where all the time is going then bootchart is an excellent tool:

All times are GMT -5. The time now is 10:36 AM.
