Booting problem with SuSE 9.1 Pro

I have installed SuSE 9.1 Pro on a secondary HDD with Windows XP Home running on the Primary drive.

Everything was running fine and I could boot either OS until I installed Windows XP Pro which had replaced the MBR and so I can no longer select the SuSE partition.

I backed up all the info I needed to keep from Windows XP home onto my SuSE partition and really need to get it back, how can I restore GRUB on the MBR to boot into Linux from Windows?

Hey,

If you have grub installed on your SuSE partition, there may be an option to 'repair SuSE on the install CD, I would check there first. If not, you'll need to boot to the SuSE partition to re-install GRUB to the MBR. You can usually use some kind of linux boot disk, and probably your SuSE install CD to boot back to SuSE temporarily. There are instructions for the installation of GRUB at the GRUB manual site here: http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/man...-natively.html

Hopefully that will work out for you.

Thanks for the reply.

I have tried disconnecting the Windows XP drive to boot back into Suse, but it won't boot.

How can I get back into my Suse partition to install grub?
