booting problem in fedora7

i installed the fedora 7 from a dvd.
During the first boot 'after the installation', after HAL daemon gets loaded following error msg appears at the bottom of screen..

buffer I/O error or device dm=0, logical block 458752
last page write due to I/O error on dm=0
failed to set xfermode (err_mask=OX 4)

Tried reinstalling the os... same prob...

Mother Board: Intel® Desktop Board D102GCC2

One more thing i noticed is, It wont stay long enough to read it...

Haven't tried other flavours till now(on that pc)...
I wolud like to stick to fedora 7...

how to get over the error???????

sounds like maybe a memory error, try taking a stick out and then booting
truth is it could be any hardware copment take all the unnessorreys out if its not memory and try booting after remmoving each one obvisoly there will come a point where you simply can remove anything in which case Id suggest running some diagnostic boot tools one such being memtest you could try installing windows and running some tests that way i.e does it boot etc
let us know how it goes

This has happened to me when I have a Windows XP installation already there. You need to wipe out the MBR first. Run 'dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda bs=8k count=1' first.
