booting live cd...

ok i am trying to run knoppix live cd on my computer downstiars, and i figured out that that computer cannot boot from cd. so i created a knppix boot disk from the cd (i.e. D:\KNOPPIX\rawrite2 -f boot.img -d A) so it created a boot disk. i restart my computer, pop in the floppy, then it goes to the knoppix screen with the "BOOT:" screen on there, i type in "knoppix lang=en" enter, (the knoppix cd is also in) and then it tells me that it cannot find the kernal..now correct me if im wrong but isnt it suppose the floppy boot disk suppose to allow you to start knoppix off the cd if your computer doesnt have the capabilities to boot off cd?!

becuase i dont know what im doing wrong
:confused: :confused: :confused:

Are you sure it can't boot from CD? you did check the BIOS settings, as some don't have this enabled by default.

(Can't help with knoppix never used it :( )

yes, that was the first thing i did...

Googling around and...

Boot: root=/dev/hdc

change the hdc to whatever the CD is on

hda = Primary Master
hdb = Primary slave
hdc = Secndary Master
hdd= Secondary slave

alright ill try that and ive already googled it around, thats how i got here =]

well i issued a:

Boot: root=/dev/(hda - hdd)
could not find kernel image: root=/de.v/h
Loading vmlinuz....
Boot Failed: please change disks and press a key to continue..
(didnt work ~.~)

i even tryed:

Boot: knoppix root=/dev/(hda - hdd)
Loading vmlinuz...
Boot Failed: please change disks and press a key to continue..
(didnt work again..)

i know im doing something wrong but i dont know what it is.. =\

I found this

Some Boards apparently don't pass the proper memory size to the linux-kernel. It may cause the message "Panic: cannot mount root file system" and the system hangs. Use "knoppix mem=128M" to solve that problem if your system has 128MByte memory for example (caution: you MUST use a capital "M" here).

This is a tough one :) Have you tried just hitting return at the boot prompt to see if that just works?

(Sorry for the daft question like BIOS but its hard aving not used it!)
