booting in shell instead of KDE

Hi,

This is a newbie question. I am running Fedora Core 4.
Where can I go to change the settings so that it boots in shell not in KDE.
I am also looking for some good documentation on commands etc. for newbies.

Another question is what is the new IRC server name for openprojects.org server?
I know irc.linux.com became irc.openprojects.org .. is it something else now?

Thanks,
Paul

open the file /etc/inittab as root and change the default runlevel to 3 instead of 5. Something like that:
Code:

id:3:initdefault:
A good newbie documentation site for commands is this one:
http://www.linuxcommand.org/

In /etc/inittab. Look for the line that says "id:5:initdefault:" and change the 5 to a 3.

For the first thing, try looking in /etc/inittab (at least that's what it is in Debian). The third line says:

Code:

#The default runlevel
id:5:initdefault:

You probably want to change the 5 to a 3. Here's a link on init process stuff: http://www.yolinux.com/TUTORIALS/Lin...itProcess.html

As for the second thing I have no idea...
