booting from cd
Hi I recently made a switch from ubuntu to slackware and I downloaded the first 3 iso cds and burned them. Im having a problem with getting the cd to boot up when i turn on the computer. I didnt have the problem when I burned the ubuntu cd and was wondering if you guys could give me some ideas on what to do.
Thanks |
Did you burn the cd as an iso? What happens when you try to boot to it?
|
Yes I used nero to burn it as an iso. When i boot up it just goes right to windows. It doesnt give me and option to boot from the cd like I have seen before. Ive burned this several times and its starting to get frustrating lol.
|
Did you verify the MD5SUM after burning the CD.
|
how would i go about doing that?
|
im so close to giving up i dont understand it. lol

Go to google type in hashcalc in search bar. Download the HASH CALC.
Insert the the file name you download (ISO)In the HASH CALC . Check MD5. Hit Calculate. From the Distribution Site there will be a number like "dd6c79fddfff36d409d02242e7b10189" under MD5. Make sure these numbers match. |
bc9a7838c4dbb7d9ef7eec65689f64e1 this is what I got.
|
I guess Ill download 11 disk 1 and try to do the swapout thing
|
This didn't help with the problem at all
If the MD5 doesn't match, how are we supposed to fix it? If the MD5 does match, and it still doesn't boot, what are we supposed to do? Also, what are we supposed to match the MD5 to? |
if the MD5 sum doesn't match, then redownload it.
You only need the first 2 slack cds |
I downloaded the iso from their torrents page so i figured it would have been correct. can anyone sugest where i can download the correct one. because I tried everything and it didnt work so i just reinstalled ubuntu and im thinking about trying vectorlinux. any help would be appreciated thank you.

I checked the MD5 and it really didn't have a bearing on anything. It turns out I wasn't burning the iso to the dvd correctly. That could be your problem because you're having the exact same problem I was. Just follow the directions in this Tutorial and it should work for you. You can download a demo of the Nero Burning ROM from download.com

I would use InfraRecorder because its free, and its really easy to burn iso's in it. You just select burn image, from one of the menus
