There probably is another way i.e. finding the correct drivers for your PCI card and using these when you install linux...

Not really as it's just a 20gig and i only use it for playing games.

I just reinstalled about a month ago and rebuiling windows and getting back to normal takes about 12 hours

Well unless anyone else can come up with a suggestion it's either that or spending pretty much that amount of time trying to get it to work... as you're new to linux I would get a distro up and running as soon as possible... you'd be surprised how quickly you can pick it up... at least then you should be able to find out how to do it...
Hope someone else can think of something.
