bootable repair linux distribution

Well, first of all I'm curious about whether this is already a distribution of linux... I would like a distribution of linux that is bootable from a cd and once it has booted it is accessible from a ssh. Then once I'm connected and all, the hard drives (most likely FAT or NTFS file system) should be mounted, then I could run programs remotely, such as scan for viruses. I'm also wondering if there is any kind of linux antivirus software which is intended to detect and remove WINDOWS viruses... This idea may have already been implemented, or even something similar... What I was thinking was that I'm going to college soon and I think it would be pretty interesting to have a cd that I could give someone with computer problems (such as a virus) have them boot from the cd, then fix it from my dorm room. Plus, I'm a little bored... my girlfriend doesn't get back from Korea for a week or so, and I'd like to see if I could learn a thing or two in my spare time . Anyway, just curious...

You can do all of the above with a good Knoppix Live CD. However, to log into it with SSH, now that is more difficult. I've done it before, but not without help. If you google Knoppix LIve-CD, you can download one of the many remakes of knoppix. There should be a security suit Knoppix IO image, I believe. I know there is a anti-security remake download, so go take a look.

PS. From what I read, Damn Small Linux works well from a CD, but I prefer Knoppix. Also, if you plan on using the CD alot, it helps to have a lot of RAM, like more than 128MB. YOu can then make the ramdisk larger.

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.

You've posted the same thread 4 times. Please don't do it again.
The one in Distributions ( ) will remain open.
