Nero works fine. Did you download the DVD iso? Did you check the md5sum? Also, you DO NOT make a bootable disc. Just select the option in Nero to burn an image to a disc. The bios reads everything itself.

try adding somthing like vga=800x600 at the Boot: prompt,
the X on its own is when an X server starts but nothing elce happens, somtimes caused by trying to display a resolution that you graphics card cannot support.

can somone give me the correct syntax for that boot argument if inst not correct

ok i found out some more things about this problem. i just tried to install it again and i tested the DVD and it passed so then i continued to the installation well on the installation it said running annaconda or whatever then it said Probing Video Card- ATI Technology unknown device then a few more things poped up but it switched screens too fast i couldnt tell what it said then the next screen was like it wanted to show the display and it had the blue background thing but it was all distorted and then it went to the black screen with the cursor being the X and moving freely without any problems so what i am thinking that it isnt getting the driver for my video card and so it cant show the display but i dont know how to get a driver for it and if i did get a driver for it how i would i get it to probe and get the driver so any help on this i would be thankful for it.. i am very new to this linux stuff but i am getting tired of microsoft and plus i think that linux would be cool to learn so thank you guys for trying and helping me.
