Maybe try running the command Xorg -configure (note the capital X, Linux's commands and filenames, unlike Windows/DOS, are case sensitive!), and then startkde.

And, of course, be sure you are logged in and not typing these commands in the username prompt.

Might try to see how to use VESA instead. You'd have to run sax or sax2 to re-config.
