Unhappy Boot to USB

I've installed Linux on my external hard drive, but now I need to boot to the USB port. Can I do it? These are my boot order options: Removable Devices, CD-ROM drive, Hard Drive, Built-In LAN. It doesn't look like I can boot to the USB. What do I do? Can I fix this, or am I out of luck? I bought the external hard drive for linux use only, and now I don't know if I can ever use it.

I am more than positive that a USB HD is considered a removeable device. I have been able to do this in windows but have not tried it in Linux, I'm new to linux also.

When installing the OS in Windows to a external I had to make a backup of the C:\ drive and then restore the drive to the external, Then I had to go in and manually creat the boot partition for the drive. It worked, but this was over 2 years ago so external technology has come a long way and it might be easier than that now. Your best bet is to google the question! Good luck
