boot stall: pcmcia drama = PANIC

i'm freaking out. i have been trying to get my wireless configured, ok, whatever, no big deal. now suddenly on reboot i get this, after everything else has been loading "ok":

initializing random number genertor: [ok]
starting pcmcia: Yenta IRQ list o698, PCI irq11
Socket status: 3000006
Yenta IRQ list 0698 PCI, irq11
Socket status: 30000006

then NOTHING. stalls. i tried to restart in interactive mode and i was pressing "i," but it didn't recognize it or some madness because it kept right on going. multiple times. i know i pressed it right after it asked me because i could see it. still, nada.

i would like to start in failsafe and tell it to not load whatever is giving it such pains, just so i can get my one super important file off, but i don't know how. i can reinstall after that, no worries, but i have to get this one file ...

please, please. if you know what's up with this socket thing, or if you can tell me how to log on just for enough time to get my file off, PLEASE. asap.

thanks

Have you gotten any help with this? Had any luck in fixing it? I am having nearly the same exact situation / problem.

Any help is appreciated.

ummmmmmmmm NOPE

turns out, linux questions ... not so helpful sometimes. what i did was use the rescue mode from my fedora cd and the command line to locate the file whilst connected to the internet to get it off and ftp it to a friend ... then i reinstalled fedora. i had to ftp it because my cd drive and floppy drive use the same port (bay?) so in order to boot from the cd i obviously couldn't use my floppy drive to save the files. if you have to get files off, you can do it that way. if you don't ... hell, just reinstall, cuz i have NO idea what happened still and no idea how to fix it. i have not tried to use the card again because it just didn't work.

what card are you using?

peace,
se

Well, here is what I have gotten to work. I have to stop pcmcia services from loading at startup, to do this i hit 'I' when it instructs. Then accept the default answer for everything until it asks for 'pcmcia' then say 'N'. That let my computer start up at least. Then open a console and type 'cardmgr'. That will start up your pcmcia services, at least i THINK that's what it does. Then I can insert my 2 pcmcia cards, a 3com 10/100 and an Orinoco Gold. Well, it's all working for me now, sort of. I'm going to try and isntall core 2/test 3 this weekend and see if that eliminates the problem.

p.s. - i'd like to help, how can we get in touch? yahoo, msn, aol, email?

rah rah, linux boom bah

howdy.
well, i've got a netgear ma401 and like i said, i haven't touched it since the day o' horror, as i like to call it. lol. ah, it didn't turn out so bad ... but i wouldn't like to have to go through it again. i really need the wireless to work, it's really slowing me up not it having it. did i mention it's a laptop? a friend o' mine says laptops and linux really don't get along so well. anyway, i'm thiscrazymadness on aim. i'll try to use my card again today, see what happens and report back on any resultant problems (which i expect many of. i'm disillusioned now). anyway, if you could help once i repost, i would be much, much obliged.
peace,
se
