Boot splash and running commands via "shortcuts"
 

Hi all,

Have two questions:

1) I want to have a Desktop shortcut (is that a symbolic link?) running a specific command.
For example, from console to launch a file manager program as root I do: su, and then (after inserting root's password) call the program. How can I have a shortcut doing the same thing?

2) My kernel is 2.6.8. and I'm using Debian sarge. How do I have Linux load with boot-splash. Is there a kernel image pre compiled with boot-splash, or shuld I compile it my self. Can anyone point me to useful link on that.

First of all, there is a kde command called 'kdesu', you can for example enter 'Alt-F2' to bring up the 'run command dialog and enter 'konqueror'.

You can drag the konqueror menu item down onto the panel, right click on the icon, and select 'properties'. Click on the Application tab, Advanced Options.
Select the 'Run as a different user' box and enter 'root' in the username.
Click OK to finish setting it up. Now if you want to run the program as root, you can just click on the icon and enter the root password.
