Unhappy boot problem after power failure

had a power failure and now on every boot, the last lines are:

NET4: Unix domain sockets 1.0/SMP for Linux NET4.0.
EXT3-fs: INFO: recovery required on readonly filesystem.
EXT3-fs: write access will be enabled during recovery.

after that, i get a blinking cursor and nothing happens.
the hdd appears to be working but nothing more happens.
i left it like this over the weekend and still nothing happened.

give me an ideea on what to try next.
