Boot Issues

Okay, I've installed Mandrake Linux 10.0 (I'm new to Linux) And I'm done installing and stuff, but, when it re-boots I get a blue screen and with options like this:

linux-smp (or something)
linux
628-7 (or something)
failsafe

I've tried everone, they all lead to something like DOS. With a bunch of Green OK's. Then it asks me to log-in (Kinda like DOS) And I get

[name@localhost name]$ (But with my name in it)

How do I START Linux... I'm SO lost... One checks stuff and then re-boots itself, and the other (failsafe) asks me a bunch of questions.

Please help me.

You're in the middle of it ... for some reason MDK
couldn't figure out what graphics card you have,
and thus hasn't set-up a graphical desktop for you.

What kind of graphics card have you got?

Cheers,
Tink

If you can log in then you are in Linux.
Try command:

startx

to start graphical mode.

Did you mean right click or you clicking on something?
Do you have a panel/toolbar at the top or bottom of the screen?
Where is this clock that you have?

No, right click. I just have a clock. It's on the top right hand corner.

So you have a graphical mode but with some problems.

What desktop environment did you choose on install.
KDE or Gnome or both?

What options do you have in your menu when you rightclick?

I'm not sure about that, I might have just skimmed through, I'm new at this stuff.
The menu says stuff like this:

Inconify
Resize
Move etc.

Show Icon Mangager
Hide Icon Manager

Kill
Delete

Restart
Exit

It seems like you installed some desktop that I can't recognize.

I suggest that you post in Linux-distribution forum section Mandrake.
You should describe your desktop (menu and clock), maybe someone can recognize it, and ask people how to install ( or switch to ) KDE or Gnome.

You can also play with what you have. Click on 'Show Icon Manager' and see what you can find.
